All scientific articles submitted to the journal “Sotsium i vlast/Society and Power” undergo a mandatory single-blind peer review process (the authors of the manuscript do not know the reviewers and receive a letter with comments).
1. Articles are reviewed by members of the Editorial Board, as well as invited reviewers – leading experts in the relevant field (philosophy, political science, and economics) from Russia and abroad. The Editor-in-chief or Deputy Editor-in-chief (responsible for the journal’s scientific direction) determines the most suitable reviewer for each submission. The review period is 4 weeks, but at the request of the reviewer it can be extended.
2. The manuscript of the article is assessed in accordance with the following criteria:
- relevance to one of the journal's scientific specialties: philosophy, political science, economics;
- consistency between the title and content;
- relevance of the topic;
- scientific novelty;
- logical and consistent presentation of the material;
- depth of analysis on the subject matter;
- clear articulation of the author's position;
- proper statistical analysis of results (for experimental studies);
- use of scientific research methods;
- citation of scientific sources (relevance and reliability of sources);
- scientific style of presentation and terminology;
- originality of the text, absence of illegal borrowings;
- literacy of the text (absence of errors in narration, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation).
3. Each manuscript is sent to two or more reviewers.
4. Each reviewer has the right to refuse to review in the event of an obvious or potential conflict of interest that affects the perception and interpretation of the manuscript materials. Following the review of the manuscript, the reviewer makes recommendations on the article (each reviewer's decision is justified):
- the article is recommended for publication in its current form;
- the article is returned for revision;
- the article is rejected.
5. If the review contains recommendations for correcting and revising the article, the Editorial Board of the journal sends the author the reviews with a proposal to take them into account when preparing a new version of the article or to refute them in a reasoned manner (partially or completely). The revision of the article should not take more than two months from the moment the email was sent to the authors about the need to make changes. The revised article will undergo another round of peer review.
6. In case of refusal of the authors to revise the materials, they must notify the editors in writing of their refusal to publish the article. If the authors do not return the revised version after 3 months from the date of sending the review, even in the absence of information from the authors about the refusal to revise the article, the submission will be withdrawn from consideration by the editors. In such cases, authors will receive a formal notification about the manuscript being removed from registration due to the expiration of the period allotted for revision.
7. If the author and reviewers have irresolvable disagreements regarding the article, the Editorial Board has the right to send it for additional review. In conflict situations, the decision is made by the Editor-in-chief.
8. The Editor-in-chief makes the final decision to reject a manuscript based on reviewers' recommendations. Articles not recommended for publication cannot be resubmitted for reconsideration. Authors receive formal notification of the rejection via email.
9. After the Editor-in-chief has decided to accept an article for publication, the Editorial team informs the author of this and specifies the publication dates.
10. The presence of one positive review is not a sufficient basis for publishing an article. The final decision on publication is made by the Editor-in-chief, guided by the recommendations of the Editorial Board and reviewers. In conflict situations, the decision is made by the Editor-in-chief.
11. The original reviews are kept in the editorial office of the journal for 5 years.
12. The authors are not charged for reviewing manuscripts of articles.
